Postoje dve glavne vrste:
Nougat cream is a sweet spread or filling made from a combination of sugar, nuts, hazelnuts or almonds, cocoa and dairy products (or plant-based alternatives for vegan versions). Its texture is usually smooth, creamy and spreadable, making it ideal for covering bread, crepes, American pancakes, cakes, plain cakes, cookies, biscuits - sponge cakes or as a filling for chocolate desserts.
There are two main types:
1. White nougat – made from white chocolate and nuts, it has a milder taste.
2. Dark or classic nougat – contains cocoa or chocolate and nuts, it has a more intense taste.
Unlike regular chocolate spread, nougat cream usually has a higher proportion of nuts, which gives it a rich, nutty taste and makes it more aromatic.
Nougat does not have a single country of origin, but is most often associated with the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Briefly:
- Middle East / Persia (today's Iran) - it is believed that the earliest forms of nougat originated here (honey, nuts, egg whites).
- France – especially the town of Montélimar, known for its classic white nougat; that is why it is often said to be "French".
- Italy – known as torrone.
- Spain – known as turrón.
Conclusion:
Nougat is not from one country, but is a traditional sweet that has developed in several cultures, and today France, Italy and Spain are the most famous for it.
